At SNHU, we have one focus: Supporting our students in the successful pursuit of their educational goals. Our mission is to provide our students with a high-quality education and an unparalleled level of service and support. Our students often describe SNHU as a place where they can build skills that serve them for life and earn a degree they can be proud of at a price they can afford.
We work tirelessly to provide the tools students need to succeed, recognizing that each student has unique goals, strengths and challenges. Whether you’re an accomplished student seeking to finish a degree you started a while ago, a first-generation student who isn’t sure a college education is within reach, or a student looking to gain new skills for a career change, we work to assess your needs and offer the right support at the right time. We succeed when our students succeed.
Across the organization, we have a laser focus on student success. This is true for teams that work directly with our students every day and for those working behind the scenes to ensure we offer the best learning experience possible. You’ll see evidence of this in action in this issue’s cover story, which focuses on the development of our First Year Experience.
With all of our efforts driven by student success, it’s important to remind ourselves that success means different things to different students. Our ultimate measure of success is when our students achieve their goals.
For some students featured in this issue of Insights, success is about landing a dream job, reaching a long sought-after goal, or sharing their knowledge and time through service.
Success is also measured in the attainment of short-term goals — mastering a course concept, earning an ‘A’ in a difficult class, completing a final paper on time, or passing that math course a student finally gathered the courage to take.
I’ve said many times that the key differentiator for SNHU’s College of Online and Continuing Education is our culture, which emanates from our mission to help students transform their lives and the lives of their families by helping them attain a top-rate education. We work hard for our students and hold one another accountable to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to student success, knowing in the end that our mission is mighty and worthwhile.
We’ve grown exponentially and now serve more students than ever before. We take our responsibility of doing the right thing for each and every one of them seriously. Throughout our space, in our daily conversations, our shared commitment to student success is repeated again and again – what can we do, change, be to help our students reach their goals? As I said in my holiday note to COCE staff this year, this contribution not only benefits SNHU, it also makes a positive difference in the lives of thousands. To our students, it’s an honor for all of us to continue helping you reach your goals in 2015.
