By Carrie Weikel-Delaplane, SNHU Career Director An integral component of career services at SNHU is employer outreach. SNHU Career works nationally with employers who want to hire our students and graduates.
We initially wondered about the challenge of employers asking why they should work with a university based in New Hampshire. We quickly learned that employers all over the country know SNHU and are enthusiastic about working with us. As we have grown as an institution, so has our network of proud graduates who are employers wanting to hire other SNHU graduates. Our Southern New Hampshire University LinkedIn page has grown to more than 32,000 alumni and serves as a valuable network for job seekers and career changers.
Many employers reference our reputation for innovation, as presented last year in Fast Company magazine. Employers have high regard for us and many have told us they have viewed our commercials, which illustrate our commitment to student success. We have students and graduates working at every level all over the country.
The SNHU Career team works creatively with employers and corporate partners to create events and hiring-related activities. Our ability to provide excellent candidates at all experience levels across the country is unique in higher education. Employers are impressed and they want to interact with our students and graduates. With our full suite of employer-facing solutions, from campus visits to virtual employer spotlights and hiring events, there is no shortage of ways we can bring employers to our students and graduates.
For example, we now are working with the FBI to pilot an eight-week experiential professional experience. Students work with FBI agents throughout a simulated case to resolution. Throughout the process, participants will learn about the FBI hiring process and how to differentiate themselves as candidates. The FBI was seeking a university that could creatively address its need to have a pipeline of potential hires who understand the organization. When we arrived to discuss the opportunity, we found our national reputation for excellence preceded us. This name recognition and positive notoriety have helped open doors for our employer outreach efforts and will continue to open doors for our students and graduates.
